BASF launches new biodegradable chelating agent Trilon M Max EcoBalanced

Chemical company BASF has launched a biodegradable chelating agent known as Trilon M Max EcoBalanced. Chelating agents are used for preventing undesirable reactions in metal ions in a variety of applications such as modern dishwasher tabs. They help prevent and dissolve scales and dirt on dishes. BASF has said that it is the first renewables-based Trilon M grade produces using its biomass balance method. The method results in products made from renewable resources like bio-naphtha or biogas at the start of production, which deliver similar performance as that of fossil feedstock. The renewable feedstock is allocated to Trilon M Max EcoBalanced through a TÜV Nord-certified method.

Soeren Hildebrandt, Senior Vice President, Home Care, I&I and Industrial Formulators Europe, BASF has said that the demand for homecare and industrial and institutional cleaning solutions using sustainable and high-quality ingredients is ever increasing. Hildebrandt also explained that BASF developed the readily biodegradable chelating agent Trilon M after recognizing the importance of finding a viable substitute to phosphate and phosphonate. He further added that BASF’s new product helped support its customers to achieve their sustainability goals by using renewable raw materials while providing its customers with complete transparency with the REDcert2 certification. BASF Spain has added a new refinish competence center at its location in Marchamalo (Guadalajara) to teach body shop technicians, large automotive companies, and distributors, along with their customers in Spain and Portugal about its renowned brands.

The plant extends to an area of 310,000 square meters of land and employs nearly 650, comprising of two paint factories, one plant for intermediate resins, and a large-scale production unit. Aside from the renovated training center, the site also houses an automotive application center as well as quality control and development laboratories for all its key product segments. This year has seen an investment of around 2.5 million euros by the Marchamalo center towards the renovation of the facility to offer the optimal technological experience.
